Rigoberti Santos is known as a master 'segmented wood-turner, he turns out just a few but beautiful pieces every year. His shop is just east of San Francisco, near his home, and he prefers to spend every spare moment creating there.

By gluing different types  and colors of pieces of wood together into layers and forming a rough shape out of them, different patterns emerge when turned on a lathe. Bowls or other shapes become vessels for patterns and images within the finished bowl, vase or other object. It's time consuming and requires years of experience, and Rigo's work is very collected and celebrated.
